About Me
Victoria Coon
Having grown up with all types of animals in my life, I knew early on that the relationship I have with them would be an integral part of my life.
As a Professional Dog Trainer, I hope to connect pups with their owners in a more meaningful and effective way through the fusion of science-based research, and real-world experience.
I graduated from the University of Arizona with a BS in Psychology for Animal Learning. Supporting myself through college, I worked full-time at a dog daycare, Sit! Stay! Play! in Tucson, Arizona. The little free time I had left was spent volunteering at shelters and training students’ dogs through my college community outreaches (Pima Animal Care Center & Wildcat Dog Training.)
Continuing this passion, I joined the Canine Cognition Center of Arizona where I helped apply research towards the understanding of canine cognition and their behavioral properties.
Those years I spent in the thick of canine handling have equipped me with the working knowledge of hundreds of dog breeds and direct insights into animal learning and their behavior.
Currently, I am certified through CPDT-KA as well as through the AKC (CGC, STAR, CC, Urban, FIT)
I am also affiliated with Shelby Semel Dog Training and it is an absolute pleasure working with her and her clients. I have been training dogs for more than 5 years, and since moving to NYC in 2019, there hasn’t been a day that I haven’t learned from, or taught, a pup.
There is nothing more rewarding to me than helping human-animal relationships flourish through a better line of communication and understanding.
This is our ‘little’ Fluffball Ghost!
He’s our rescue from A Passion for Paws in Menifee, California. He was about a year old when we rescued him, and he’s 5 years old now. He’s been DNA tested to be 100% Japanese Akita which I know is hard to believe. Whitecoat color in Japanese Akitas is rather rare, and the Long-hair recessive gene is even rarer. These traits together made our one-of-a-kind L'Oréal commercial of a dog!
He loves other dogs and is always such a good boy, we can’t help but spoil him.
From Goodest Boy to Hardest Worker!
We take Ghost on all our adventures, whether they’re day trips, or cross country road trips! He’s always happy being with us, and the feeling is mutual. He’s there watching over us and keeping us company, and when we really need him, he’s even more present!
I regularly use Ghost when I work with clients because of his calm temperament and his eagerness to work. He is currently a service dog, and he has all of his training down. He’s also used as a training dog for teaching ‘human’ dog walkers and handlers as well. He’s a wonderful role model to our board and train puppies and gets along with every dog he meets.
He’s everything that we could ask for.
